Work We Turn Down

Most of the doors we work on in this area went up during the housing boom that ran from 1938 to 2000, with the bulk of homes dating to the 1960s and 70s. That means a lot of original one-piece doors and side-mounted torsion springs that nobody makes new parts for anymore. We repair and replace those, along with the openers, tracks, rollers, and cables that came with them.

What we don't do: we don't take on custom architectural door builds, full structural garage rebuilds, or doors from manufacturers so old or so rare that getting a matching part means a lead time measured in weeks. If your door falls into that category, we'll say so instead of taking the job and letting it drag.

We also won't give you a firm repair price over the phone when the spring, track, and opener all sound like they're involved at once. There are too many variables in that combination to quote blind, somebody has to look at it first.

Winters in this area sit in a cold-moderate band, and that kind of swing is hard on torsion springs and metal track, calls tend to bunch up when the temperature drops hard for a stretch.

What Comes Next

If you call, tell us what the door is doing, won't open, opens crooked, makes a bang and stops, opener runs but the door doesn't move. That's enough for us to bring the right parts on the first trip most of the time, though not always; some jobs need a second look once the door's apart.

We're at 8747 Ridgeland Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453, and calls go to (708) 630-7530. If you'd rather start online, our home page has the basics on what we handle.

We don't pad the visit. If the fix is a fifteen-minute cable adjustment, that's what you pay for. If the door's old enough and worn enough that a repair would just be a stopgap before the next failure, we'll tell you that too, and let you decide whether patching it or replacing it makes more sense for your situation.

Good to Know

About Oak Lawn Garage Door Pros: FAQs

Do you work on older one-piece garage doors?

Yes. A lot of the housing stock around Oak Lawn dates to the 1960s and 70s, so we see plenty of original one-piece doors on side-mounted torsion hardware. We repair and replace them, though exact replacement parts for some older setups can take longer to source than for a standard modern door.

How far out from Oak Lawn do you go?

We cover towns within roughly 8 miles of Oak Lawn, including Hometown, Chicago Ridge, Burbank, Evergreen Park, Alsip, Bridgeview, Hickory Hills, Blue Island, Midlothian, and neighborhoods on the Chicago side like Mount Greenwood and Ashburn. Call and give us your town and we can tell you quickly whether it's in range.

Can you quote a repair over the phone?

Sometimes, if it's a single clear issue like a broken cable. If the spring, track, and opener all seem to be involved, we won't guess at a price, we'd rather look at the door first than give you a number that changes once we're on site.

What won't you take on?

Custom architectural door builds, full structural garage rebuilds, and doors needing parts from manufacturers so obscure the lead time runs into weeks. We'd rather tell you up front than take a job we can't turn around in reasonable time.
